About Us

What is UWL?

UWL provides unique professional development and academic guidance for the pre-law women of UVA. As a community, we offer a support system and safe, educational space for women considering law as a career goal or interest in their future paths.

What are the benefits of joining UWL?

UWL’s professional development opportunities cover high-demand areas of pre-law organizations such as admissions advice, application preparation, and practical law school insight.

From us, you can expect:

  • alumni panels and mentorship

  • partners and mentors from UVA Law Women

  • Princeton Review benefits (exclusive LSAT preparation sessions and discounts on study materials for UWL members)

  • law school trips (D.C., North Carolina, New York, and beyond!)

  • peer connections (a unique Big/Little program) & specialized support for specific legal fields

  • conversations, panels, lectures on contemporary legal issues (25+ unique speakers at 12+ meetings this past semester)

  • exclusive access to networking events (Co-sponsored annual Women’s History Month Symposium Banquet & Women in Law Networking Event)

Most of all, we are a large group of law-oriented women to have fun and study with! It’s important to support each other at a university without a clear pre-law path.

How will UWL continue to expand?

UWL has created an accessible space for pre-law women with no strict membership requirements or prohibitive fees. Even after reaching 280+ women at UVA, we hope to foster an ever-growing support network and community for members, through even more networking and social events. We look forward to continuing existing partnerships with other CIOs, and forging new ones, especially in UVA’s woman-oriented spaces. We also will continue bringing in diverse and experienced speakers in varying fields of law!
